What is Wow Chinese?
Wow Chinese is an educational book series and app created by Kenek AI to make it easier for learners to remember 1,800+ Chinese characters.
The first book in the series is over 140 pages and covers 72 Chinese characters.
Why did we make Wow Chinese?
For our kids. We find our kids quickly losing interest and struggling to remember the various Chinese characters.
Our kids wanted a book and app with memorable illustrations to help them remember Chinese characters. They also made it very clear it had to be fun.
We searched Amazon, Taobao, Ebay, and more, but couldn't find one that fulfilled all their requests. Finally, we used our Machine Learning and Generative AI expertise to create one ourselves.
What makes Wow Chinese different?
We are going back to the roots of the language and presenting each Chinese character as a unique illustration.
We give one illustration per Chinese character. No need to remember how different elements combine to form a meaning.
Feature / Pinyin
We show both tones, simultaneously.
Reading Chinese is challenging, especially for beginners. It gets even trickier with the different tones and tonal changes based on certain grammatical structures.
Our book has pinyin with green arrows which show the tonal changes. As far as we know, we're the first book and app to show both non-modified and modified tones simultaneously.

Our Illustrations
One illustration per character. No need to remember how different elements combine to form a meaning. Each character gets its own unique, memorable visual that sticks in the learner's mind.
Our Activities
A writing exercise using our unique grid system, developed through stroke analysis and machine learning to find the most effective way to write each Chinese character.
A matching exercise to match words to images.
A pinyin exercise to fill in the blank and remember the pinyin.
A coloring page to provide a change of scenery and enjoy the beauty of Chinese characters.
A word search where learners find correct Chinese characters hidden in an image.

Who is Wow Chinese for?
Our main target is children between 5 to 9 for the first book. As the book is designed to enhance understanding of each Chinese character, it is also suitable for new learners and adult learners who want to improve their Chinese. We are also developing the Wow Chinese language app, which will be suitable for all ages.
How did we decide which Chinese characters to start with?
We're making the book for our kids and since we live in Singapore, we decided to base it on the education system here. Singapore education ranks highly in the world and we figure that it's a good start.
Can you learn all 1,800+ Chinese characters with this one book?
Nice try! This book is the first in a 24-book series that will cover 1,800+ characters in total. Book 1 is over 140 pages and covers 72 characters. The remaining 1,730+ will be covered across the next 23 books.
